• 170 nurseries prepared to realise the dream

Chandigarh, January 11: The Punjab government led by Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is making continuous efforts to create a green and healthy environment in Punjab. 

Punjab Rural Development and Panchayat Minister Mr. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal said that the state government has planted 19 lakh 44 thousand saplings in the villages of the state. He divulged that 19 lakh 44 thousand saplings have been planted so far with the support of the Forest Department under MGNREGA Scheme. He said that under this campaign, where fruit and flowering plants have been planted, 1 lakh 2 thousand Moringa Medicinal plants have also been planted. He said that a total of 170 nurseries were prepared under the  MGNREGA scheme in coordination with the Forest Department to make this campaign a big success to meet the rising demand for plants.

The Cabinet Minister said that emphasis is also being laid on the construction of mini forests based on Miyawaki Technique to make the state greener. He said that under this initiative, where the people of the villages will get employment, this project will also proved helpful in keeping the environment clean and green.

Mr. Dhaliwal further said that the MGNREGA scheme is proving to be a boon for the rural workers of Punjab. He informed that a total of Rs 1065 crore has been spent under the scheme during this financial year. He added that during the current financial year 2022-2023, a total of 7 lakh 85 thousand families were given employment and 2 crore, 65 lakh work days were created. “During this financial year, 83 thousand 312 new job cards have been created under MGNREGA so that the benefits of this scheme can be extended to maximum number of rural families”, he added.
