Instructs officials to ensure smooth procurement
Aashika Jain appealed to the farmers to bring dry wheat into the markets
Chandigarh, March 31: While reviewing the arrangements for procurement of wheat starting from April 1, Deputy Commissioner Ms. Aashika Jain issued strict instructions to officials to ensure smooth procurement during rabi season. At the same time, she also appealed to the farmers to bring dried wheat in the markets so that the procurement process of wheat in the mandis could be completed without any difficulty.
While presiding over a meeting at the Local Administrative Complex today regarding procurement of wheat during the upcoming Season, Ms. Aashika Jain said that this year in the district 46000 hectares Wheat has been sown and 1,96,000 MT of wheat is expected. She said that 1,39,053 metric tons of wheat is likely to arrive at mandis of the district for the procurement. She said that the Punjab government is committed to purchase every single grain of the farmers. Because of this, there should not be any deficiency in any kind of arrangement in all the mandis.
Directing that the maintenance and cleanliness of the mandis should be properly arranged, Deputy Commissioner said that first-aid kits should be provided in all procurement centers so that first aid can be given during any untoward incident. She also gave instructions for adequate provision of drinking water and toilets in the mandis. Ms. Aashika Jain asked to ensure vehicle-tracking system in all vehicles used for transportation of wheat from purchase center to storage point. She also issued instructions to ensure payments to the farmers in stipulated time.
Deputy Commissioner also asked to ensure availability of suction machines and adequate labor in case of rain during the procurement period. She instructed the officials involved in the procurement to be fully vigilant in the mandis so that the farmers do not face any difficulty.
Meeting with Associations - Meanwhile, Deputy Commissioner Ms. Aashika Jain also held a meeting with Aarti Association, Labor Unions and Transport Contractors. She listened their problems very carefully and assured to solve the various issues raised by them on priority basis.
ADC (UD) Mr. Damanjit Singh Mann, SDM Mohali Sarabjit Kaur, SDM Derabassi Himanshu Gupta and representatives of Food and Civil Supplies department, Mandi Board and various purchase agencies were present in the meeting.
