For the first time in Punjab, a huge operation was successful without violence and bloodshed - Malwinder Singh Kang
During the Badal and Congress governments, police operations used to include heavy bloodshed and firing on innocents - Kang
Due to the promptness of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, there was no violence in Punjab during this operation and no innocent was targeted - Kang
Chandigarh, April 23: On the arrest of Amritpal Singh, Chief Spokesperson of Aam Aadmi Party Punjab, Malwinder Singh Kang said that in all the big police operations of the previous governments, there was a lot of bloodshed and violence and many innocent people became victims of the action. This is the first time in the history of Punjab that such a huge operation was successful without any bloodshed and violence.
Addressing a press conference held at the party headquarters on Sunday, Kang cited several examples of violence in police operations during previous governments. He referred to the police operation in Amritsar in 1978 when Parkash Singh Badal became the Chief Minister for the first time and said that many innocent youths had lost their lives in this operation. If the government had acted realizing its responsibility at that time, then the lives of those youth could have been saved.
He also referred to the central police action taken by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi and said that the Congress then carried out violence and bloodshed in Punjab on a large scale. Similarly, in 1986 the Nakodar incident took place. There was heavy bloodshed and violence in that too.
Police action in Ludhiana and Jalandhar in 2009 also resulted in heavy bloodshed and at the cost of many innocent lives. Then in 2012, there was large-scale violence in the protest against the hanging of Balwant Singh Rajoana.
But ever since the Mann government came to power in Punjab, not a single innocent person has been targeted in the action of the Punjab Police. He mentioned the incidents of Patiala and Ajnala. The Punjab Police carried out this action without harming the common people and innocents. In the Ajnala incident, the police personnel themselves suffered injuries, but did not allow the peace in the state to deteriorate.
Kang praised Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and said that due to his promptness and sincerity, neither there was any violence nor firing in Punjab during the last one and a half month in this operation. The Mann Government did not allow any untoward incident to happen.
Even today Amritpal Singh has been arrested from Gurdwara Sahib, but without hurting the religious sentiments of Sangat and harming the common people.
