Social organisations organised protest demonstration
Ludhiana: May 9, 2023: (Kartika Singh/Arth Prakash):
Various social organisations organised protest demonstrations demanding the arrest of Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh President of Indian Wrestlers Federation. He has been accused by the women wrestlers of sexual harassment. These women wrestlers have been holding Dharna at the Jantar Mantar, New Delhi demanding his arrest. It is ironic that despite women's agitation no FIR was launched against Brij Bhushan who is an MP of the BJP and they had to go to the Supreme Court for lodging FIR. FIR was launched at the direction of the Supreme Court but he has still not been arrested.
Protest in Ludhiana in Support of Wrestlers
This is reminiscent of the case of the release of the rapist and murders of the family of Bilkis Bano as well as the Lakhimpur Khiri case where no action has been taken to date against the Union Home Minister for state for the involvement of his son in the cold-blooded murder of the farmers in Lakhimpur Khiri. These episodes have exposed the fascist face of the RSS patronised Modi lead government at the centre. The wrestlers have brought laurels to the country by winning medals in international events.
The Prime Minister who always talks of Beti Bachao Beti Padhao has not uttered a single word in favour of the women wrestlers what to talk of action against Brij Bhushan. This shows his arrogance and total lack of concern for affected women of that stature. This is a reflection of his narcissistic behaviour. Protesting organisations included All India Trade Union Congress (AITUC), Indian Doctors for Peace and Development(IDPD), Social Thinkers Forum, Bharat Jan Gyan Vigyan Jatha, Save Constitution Manch, All India Students Federation, All India Kisan Sabha and Punjab Istri Sabha Ludhiana. Prominent among those who addressed the gathering include Dr Arun Mitra, Dr Gagandeep, M.S. Bhatia, Ramesh Ratan, D.P.Maur, Vijay Kumar, Kulwant Kaur, Ranjit Singh, Kusum Lata, Chamkaur Singh, Sushma Oberoi. Among others Dr. Monica Dhawan, Dr. Tejinder Singh, Dr. Ankush Kumar, and Dr. Seerat Singh were present.
The protesters marched from the Punjabi Bhavan to the Deputy Commissioner’s office and after the rally presented a memorandum, addressed to the Prime Minister, to Deputy Commissioner Ludhiana.
