Chandigarh : 10th June, 2023: (Kartika Singh):: PU contractual workers continue their indefinite day-night protest at VC Office. Today a meeting was arranged by DSP CID, Chandigarh. The meeting was attended by workers, SFS members, representatives of the UT federation and contractors. It was assured that the matter will be resolved soon. Later in the afternoon, workers' representatives also held a meeting with the registrar. He assured us that he and Vice-Chancellor have warned the RR contractor that either terminated workers be reinstated immediately else his contract will be terminated.

It is important to mention that every year University contractual workers have been fired off and they have to stage protests for rejoining. This year's termination of PU contractual workers owes its origin to the increase in DC rates but PU authorities did not increase the correspondent fundings and contractors decided to terminate workers. Ironically, PU contractual workers are recruited through the JAM portal, which leaves much scope for manipulation which is disadvantageous to workers.
Its been a month since these Contractual workers have started out their strike. Still authorities haven't taken any solid stand on the matter. As of PU Student Union SFS has also came forward to support these workers. SFS President Sandeep said that "We demand immediate resolution of our PU workers. PU authorities must show some empathy for these protesting workers. We demand that PU authorities must end this contract system and regularise all PU Workers. It will end the agony and continuous harassment of PU workers."
