Chandigarh, June 12:: With Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann led Government is committed to provide world-class healthcare facilities to the people of the state, Punjab Health and Family Welfare Minister Dr Balbir Singh on Monday directed all the Civil Surgeons of the state to make optimum use of resources to ensure that no patient or their kins face any difficulty in  availing any government health facility.

    Dr Balbir Singh was presiding over a meeting of all the civil surgeons to review the performance of their respective districts, at the Directorate of Health and Family Welfare Punjab here. 

    Showcasing the extraordinary works done by the Civil Surgeons of District Faridkot and Ludhiana, Dr Balbir Singh exhorted all the civil surgeons to emulate works of such model districts. All the health officials/officers working with a zeal and passion will be honoured in the near future, he added.

    He also asked Civil surgeons to ensure that all the medical equipment lying in their concerned hospitals should be in working order. In case any equipment is lying defunct, get it repaired from the agency hired by the state government at the earliest, he added.

    “Use services of nursing students to set up patient facilitation centres in all the hospitals so that patients and their attendants could avail hassle-free services at government hospitals,” said Dr Balbir Singh, while terming patient satisfaction as the prime aim.

    Stressing on the need to further intensification of efforts to reduce the Maternal Mortality Rate and Infant Mortality Rate, the minister instructed all the health officials to ensure institutional delivery in government hospitals, besides, ramping-up antenatal check up, registration of pregnant ladies and arrangements for safe delivery of high risk pregnant women on top priority. 

    In the presence of IMA president Dr Bhagwant Singh, who was specially invited to the conference, Dr Balbir Singh directed all the Civil Surgeons to coordinate and collaborate with the IMA, as many of the private practitioners are willing to donate their time and services for a common cause, therefore their services can be utilised in government hospitals. The Minister also asked the health authorities to reach out to the retired doctors of the department as they are also willing to serve people as a noble gesture.

    During the conference DM cardiologist AIIMS New Delhi Dr Sudhir Verma, presented the findings of a detailed survey of various health institutions of the state conducted by him on the directions of the Health Minister. As a result of his survey, a presentation regarding a roadmap to work towards strengthening health services was shared by him. Chairman PHSC Raman Behl emphasised that any patient visiting a government health facility should be treated with utmost humility, politeness and compassion.

    Meanwhile, the Health Minister emphasised on the need to pay special attention to the maintenance and cleanliness of the government health institutions. He also directed Civil Surgeons to make frequent visits at health facilities under their jurisdiction to rectify the shortcomings found during such visits.

Prominent amongst others who were present on the occasion included Principal Secretary Health and Family Welfare Punjab Vivek Pratap Singh, Secretary Health cum Mission Director NHM Punjab Dr Abhinav Trikha, Managing Director PHSC Pradeep Aggarwal, CEO State Health Agency Babita, Director Health & Family Welfare Punjab Dr Adarshpal Kaur, Director Health Services (FW) Punjab, Dr. Ravinder Pal Kaur, Director (ESI) Dr Seema and all Deputy Directors and other officials were present.
