After hours of heavy rainfall, the polluted Buddha Nullah stream in Ludhiana experienced an overflow, resulting in flooding in various residential areas. Efforts to drain the water from affected neighborhoods continued until Thursday. Additionally, the stream also overflowed in other locations, including colonies near Tajpur Road, causing flooding in several slums.

The contaminated black water from Buddha Nullah spilled onto roads in residential areas such as Haibowal, Vivek Nagar, and Chander Nagar. Despite the rain, teams from the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation, consisting of over 600 employees, remained on duty, diligently cleaning road gullies across the city amid the heavy downpour.

Upon receiving alerts from field staff about the rising water level in Buddha Nullah and complaints of waterlogging in Chander Nagar, Vivek Nagar, and nearby areas, immediate action was taken by the Municipal Corporation. Sandbags were strategically placed to reinforce the stream's banks.

MC COMMISSIONER ACKNOWLEDGES THE ISSUE

MC Commissioner Dr. Shena Aggarwal acknowledged the waterlogging issues caused by the heavy rainfall on Wednesday but assured that the civic body's teams were committed to swiftly draining out the accumulated water from roads, streets, and underpasses. To maintain regular cleanliness, eight Poclain and JCB machines have been deployed for the cleaning of Buddha Nullah. Additionally, staff has been assigned night duty to prevent waterlogging in the city. Sandbags have been placed to strengthen the banks in Chander Nagar, Vivek Nagar, and nearby areas, with sufficient reserves available to address any emergency situations during the monsoon season.

Dr. Aggarwal emphasized that senior officials are actively monitoring the situation on the ground and are prepared to handle any challenges that may arise during the monsoon season.
