MLA Kulwant Singh and SDM Sarabjit Kaur Review Rescue work of 50 people from Rurka village

Due to the pouring of heavy rain today, the problem of accumulation of storm water in Mohali city and stucking of residents of Rurka village, were sorted out by the district administration and municipal corporation administration late in the  evening.
     MLA Mohali, Kulwant Singh and SDM Mohali Sarabjit Kaur made a special visit to Rurka village and around 50 people were rescued safely from the village with the help of NDRF.  Some people are still in the village taking shelters at Multi storey buildings, were served with food by the administration.
     According to MLA Mohali, Kulwant Singh, he has been constantly in touch with the district administration and municipal administration since morning and had  continuously been  making efforts to solve the problems faced by the people of the city and the surrounding areas.  He appreciated the promptness shown by the administrative teams in this difficult time.  He said that as Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann instructed the Deputy Commissioners to be the part of rescue operations at the ground level, the Mohali district administration went beyond its call of duty and made rescue efforts everywhere.

Deputy Commissioner Aashika Jain said that sometimes the natural calamity is beyond the control of human power but our teams tried to reduce the difficulties of common people by making all possible efforts. She said that along with landline helplines at the district and sub-division levels, mobile helplines were also launched, on which hundreds of distress calls were received and being  resolved on the spot. 
She said that Six NDRF teams have been called in the district and the government has been requested to keep the army standby in case of any kind of exigency. She said that the administration's job is to protect people's lives and property on priority and our teams are doing it honestly.  She said that the recession of rain in the afternoon has given a big relief, but the administration will remain vigilant according to the weather forecast for the next few days.
Municipal Corporation Commissioner, Navjot Kaur said that Joint Commissioner Kiran Sharma herself led to teams to drain out storm water from the roads and phases of Mohali, today.  She said that hundreds of telephone messages were received about storm water entering homes which were immediately acted upon.
     Joint Commissioner, Kiran Sharma said that in phase five, phase four, phase Nine and sector 71, large-scale drainage of storm water was done.  The dewatering of Phase 11 was also completed late at 9.30 pm, where six big pumping machines were working.
     Deputy Commissioner Ashika Jain said that we still need to be alert due to the bad weather conditions.
