Three Doctors to participate in American Society of Hematology's VTP 2023

Chandigarh: July 16, 2023: (Kartika Singh/Arth Parkash):: Three doctors from the PGIMER's Department of Hematology, namely Dr. Sreejesh Sreedharanunni (Associate Professor), Dr. Pulkit Rastogi (Assistant Professor), and Dr. Manu Jamwal (Research Associate), have been granted the prestigious opportunity to participate in the American Society of Hematology's (ASH) Visitor Training Program (VTP) for 2023.

The ASH VTP offers funding for a comprehensive up to 12-week advanced training program to healthcare professionals hailing from low and middle-income countries. This initiative aims to enhance their capacity to combat prevalent and critical blood diseases. Throughout the program, participants are mentored by experienced senior hematologists from the United States and Europe, while working in clinics or laboratories. After the training concludes, the awardees bring their newly acquired knowledge and skills back to India to implement them in patient care.
These three doctors will be undergoing specialized training in various aspects of blood diseases.

Dr. Sreedharanunni will receive training in Texas, USA, while Dr. Rastogi will be trained in Munich, Germany. Both will focus on advanced genetic techniques for diagnosing life-threatening blood cancers. These innovative tests not only aid in guiding treatment decisions but also enable the prediction of outcomes and facilitate the selection of targeted therapies, thereby prolonging patient survival. Dr. Jamwal, on the other hand, will be trained in California, USA. She will learn about the diagnosis of thalassemia and other severe hemoglobin disorders in babies still in their mother's womb. The training will encompass safe and non-invasive testing conducted on the mother's blood.

By participating in the ASH Visitor Training Program, these already highly-trained doctors are poised to further advance their expertise in hematology, ensuring improved patient care upon their return to India. This valuable opportunity signifies a significant international collaborative milestone and serves as a testament to the PGIMER’s dedication and commitment to combating blood diseases.
