People have a strong affection for Apple products, especially iPhones. This love extends not only to the latest models but also to older ones, as evidenced by the hefty price tags they are willing to pay. In a recent auction, a completely sealed and packaged original 2007 Apple iPhone fetched a staggering $158,000.

According to a report by 9to5mac, the auction was conducted by LCG and involved a highly rare model. Specifically, the sold iPhone was the 4GB version of the 2007 Apple iPhone, which was only manufactured for a few months. The device was put up for auction in June and originated from a former Apple engineer who had worked on the development of the smartphone.

The LCG Auction

The LCG Auction website described the offering as an exceptionally rare, factory-sealed, first-release 4GB model in impeccable condition. The phone's surface and edges were virtually flawless, and the factory seal was clean with accurate seam details and tightness. The labels on the back were pristine beneath the seal, and the overall appearance boasted outstanding color and gloss. It was emphasized that the phone was brand new and had never been activated.

Furthermore, the auction website highlighted the phone's pristine provenance, as the consignor was part of the original engineering team at Apple during the iPhone's initial launch. According to LCG, collectors and investors would struggle to find a superior example of this red-hot collectible, given its combination of relevance and rarity. The auction listing provided additional details, such as the model number (A1203) and order details (MA501LL/A 4GB).

Earlier this year, another first-generation iPhone model from 2007 was sold for $63,356. This particular iPhone offered 8GB of storage and was initially launched in 2007 with a price tag of $599.

The auction became increasingly intense, with bids jumping from $67,000 before finally reaching the impressive closing price of $158,644. Comparing this final price to the original retail price of $499 for the 4GB model, it represents a remarkable 318-fold increase in value over the past 16 years.

In conclusion, the immense popularity and demand for Apple products, particularly iPhones, continue to drive up their prices in the market. The auction of an original 2007 Apple iPhone, with its rarity and pristine condition, fetched a staggering $158,000. This showcases the enduring appeal and value associated with Apple's iconic devices, as enthusiasts and collectors eagerly seek out these technological treasures.
