Sri Lankan President Ranil Wickremesinghe is planning to visit India this Friday, where he will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Droupadi Murmu. This visit marks the first time President Wickremesinghe has traveled to India since assuming office.

During his visit, the President will discuss various topics of mutual interest with Indian leaders, aiming to strengthen the long-standing friendship between the two countries. The focus will be on exploring opportunities for improved connectivity and cooperation in different sectors.
Earlier, Indian Foreign Secretary Vinay Kwatra visited Sri Lanka to prepare for President Wickremesinghe's upcoming visit. India has been supportive of Sri Lanka during its financial crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic's impact on tourism and remittances. India views Sri Lanka as an important partner in its 'Neighbourhood First' policy and Vision SAGAR.
The financial crisis in Sri Lanka has been severe due to a shortage of foreign exchange reserves, prompting India's assistance to the debt-ridden country.
