"Delhi Court Imposes Bail Conditions; Top Women Wrestlers' Sexual Harassment Allegations Under Scrutiny"
Delhi's Rouse Avenue court has granted bail to BJP MP and Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief, Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, in a sexual harassment case filed by top women wrestlers of the country. The special MP MLA Judge, Harjeet Singh Jaspal, passed the order.
The court has imposed certain conditions on Brij Bhushan, stating that he cannot leave the country without permission and must not threaten the individuals who filed the case against him, directly or indirectly. Vinod Tomar, the former additional secretary of WFI, who closely worked with the WFI president, was also granted bail by the court. Both were required to furnish a personal bail bond of Rs 25,000 each.
Vinod Tomar had been suspended by the Union Sports Ministry earlier this year, following discussions with the protesting wrestlers.
Previously, the court had granted Brij Bhushan a two-day interim bail. He expressed concern about the chargesheet being reported verbatim and alleged media trial during the court proceedings.
Top Olympians like Vinesh Phogat, Sakshi Malik, and Bajrang Punia had demanded Singh's arrest, accusing him of sexual harassment against seven wrestlers, including a minor. The protest continued for over five months until June when a chargesheet was filed against Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh.
The complaints against the WFI chief included allegations of inappropriate touching, placing his hand over the chest of girls, moving his hand from the chest to the back, and chasing them, among other misconduct.
