A longitudinal fight against Casteism at PU Campus, holds various demands

SFS leads the Protest agaisnt the Harassment of SC Students:

Chandigarh: 24th July, 2023: (Kartika Singh/Arth Parkash):: Today, SFS held a protest against the violation of the reservation policy and harassment of SC students on various pretexts. The main demands of the protest were:
1. Implementation of Caste based reservation in PhD for 2023 session.
2. Implementation of DMC/Degrees of SC students as per notification dated 05.09.2023. 
3. Proper allocation of Hostel Seats for SC/ST/OBC students. 
4. Implementation of Post-Matric scholarship of SC students of Haryana in PU, Chandigarh 
5. Stop harassing SC students by rejecting SC certificates on unnecessary pretexts. 
6. Implement a uniform caste reservation policy (PU implements the lowest of central and Punjab governments).

SFS submitted a memorandum regarding the above-mentioned demands. After a meeting was held with PU authorities. In the meeting, PU authorities partially agreed to fulfil our demands and assurance for the other demands. They agreed to implement reservations for SC/ST and talked round about OBC/BC reservations. After the protest, SFS members again met Director, Dean Research Office and were apprised about the anomaly of the omission of BC seats. He has assured to resolve the matter at the earliest. Apart from this, SFS had also submitted a memorandum regarding the rejection of the SC certificate on unnecessary pretexts. This demand has been accepted. On uniform reservation policy, Associate DSW assured that the matter will be put up before Senate. 

SFS President Sandeep said "PU authorities must shed its casteist mentality and stop harassing SC students every year. We appeal to all to fight against casteism in our campus discrimination-free and democratic space." We also appeal all SC students if they face any problems, do contact with SFS members. 

Various Students Organizations supported the protest.
