Leaders of the All India Students' Federation (AISF) and CPI have jointly announced a bandh for educational institutions in Telangana and Andhra Pradesh on July 25. This move comes as a response to various irregularities plaguing the education sector, and the student unions seek immediate attention from the government to address these pressing issues.

Demands for Improved Facilities and Safety Measures

The bandh has been organized in response to several factors adversely affecting the lives of students. Foremost among the demands are improvements in basic facilities within hostels, along with a reduction in mess charges. Additionally, the unions are urging the government to fill vacant positions of wardens, cooks, and watchmen in hostels to ensure better living conditions for students.

Furthermore, there is a call to construct compound walls for women's dormitories in Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalayas (KGBVs) and Gurukuls across both states, emphasizing the need for enhanced safety measures. The unity of various student unions against the government showcases their collective determination to secure the fulfillment of these demands.

The recent incident at Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya in Amarchinta village, where around 50 girls fell ill after consuming contaminated food, has heightened concerns about the quality and safety of food provided in such institutions. Allegations of using low-quality and rotten ingredients have further fueled the protest.

The Telugu Nadu Students Federation (TNSF) has also joined the movement, voicing its opposition to the government's anti-student policies. TNSF President Pranav Goyal demands stringent action against private corporate institutions that increase fees arbitrarily, advocating for a fair fee structure set by the government.

In light of these widespread concerns and united efforts by student unions, the educational institution bandh stands as a powerful demonstration of students' determination to secure better facilities, safety, and affordability in the education sector. The ball is now in the government's court to address these demands and pave the way for a brighter and more inclusive educational future.
