The Indian Men's Hockey Team played their first match in the 100th Anniversary Spanish Hockey Federation - International Tournament against the host team, Spain. It was a closely-fought game, but Spain emerged victorious with a score of 2-1 in Barcelona on Tuesday.
The match started with India displaying an aggressive approach and high pressing in the first quarter. However, they couldn't take the lead, and as the quarter progressed, Spain gained momentum. In the 11th minute, Pau Cunill scored a goal for Spain, putting them ahead.
In the second quarter, India tried to control possession and launch counterattacks to equalize, but Spain's defense remained strong, and the quarter ended goalless, with Spain leading 1-0 at halftime.
The third quarter saw India attacking fiercely, repeatedly testing Spain's defense. However, it was Spain who managed to extend their lead with a goal from Joaquin Menini in the 33rd minute. India had some chances, including a penalty corner, but they couldn't convert them into goals. Spain's goalkeeper also made a crucial save from a fiery shot by Indian Captain Harmanpreet Singh.

In the fourth quarter, India intensified their efforts to score, creating good opportunities, but they still couldn't find the net. On the other hand, Spain tried counter-attacking and won back-to-back penalty corners, but they couldn't convert them into goals either.
In the dying minutes of the game, India managed to get on the scoreboard with a penalty corner conversion by Captain Harmanpreet Singh. Despite their efforts, India couldn't score another goal, and the game ended with Spain winning 2-1.
The Indian Men's Hockey Team's next match will be against the Netherlands in the tournament on 26th July 2023 at 21:30 IST. They will be looking to bounce back and secure a win in their second game of the competition.
