Tensions flared in the Indian Parliament during the ongoing monsoon session as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) submitted a privilege notice against Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) Rajya Sabha MP, Raghav Chadha. Accusing Chadha of presenting misleading facts to the media, the BJP MPs alleged intentional and deliberate misconduct on his part. The notice stems from Chadha's remarks concerning the suspension of AAP's Rajya Sabha MP, Sanjay Singh, during a contentious session marked by opposition demands for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the Manipur issue.

Misleading Comments and Breach of Privilege:

The privilege notice, brought forth by BJP MPs Sushil Kumar Modi and Deepak Prakash, centers on Raghav Chadha's purported comments to the media regarding the suspension of Sanjay Singh from the entire session. Chadha reportedly stated that Singh would continue to sit inside the chamber despite being suspended, leading the BJP MPs to assert that such remarks are an "affront to the authority of the Chair" and a breach of parliamentary privilege. The incident adds fuel to the already heightened tensions in the parliament, fueled by opposition demands for the Prime Minister's statement on the Manipur violence issue.

Turbulent Proceedings and Suspension

During the session, Sanjay Singh, along with other opposition members, insisted on Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement on the Manipur issue. When their demand was not accepted, and the Question Hour began, the AAP MP walked to the well of the House, pressing his demand. In response, Rajya Sabha Chairperson Jagdeep Dhankhar took decisive action and named Sanjay Singh, seeking his compliance to return to his seat. However, when Singh failed to comply, Union Minister and Leader of the House Piyush Goyal moved a motion to suspend him. The House approved the suspension with a voice vote, leading to the suspension of Sanjay Singh from the entire session.

Allegations of Misrepresenting Proceedings:

In addition to the privilege notice, another notice was submitted against Raghav Chadha by BJP's Phangnon Konyak and K Laxman. This notice accuses Chadha of misrepresenting the proceedings of the House. With tensions running high and the parliamentary session marred by disruptions, Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar has referred the matter to the privileges committee for further examination.

As the monsoon session of Parliament continues, the atmosphere remains charged with political clashes and opposition demands for the Prime Minister's statement on the Manipur violence issue. The privilege notice against Raghav Chadha highlights the escalating tensions between political parties and underscores the significance of upholding parliamentary ethics and decorum. With the matter now referred to the privileges committee, the spotlight remains on the outcome of the investigation. As the government and opposition lock horns, the nation watches with anticipation for the resolution of the ongoing disputes that impact the functioning of the highest legislative body in India.
