A tragic road accident occurred in the Gumkhal area of Pauri district on Tuesday night, resulting in the loss of three lives. The incident unfolded as the vehicle they were traveling in veered off the road and plummeted into a 500-meter deep gorge. Reports indicate that the victims were en route from Gumkhal market area to their homes when the unfortunate accident took place.
In response to the incident, teams from the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) were swiftly dispatched to the scene. These teams, stationed at Satpuli and Srinagar posts, commenced rescue operations immediately. Negotiating challenging terrain, the SDRF personnel managed to reach the accident site and initiate recovery efforts.
Lalita Negi, the SDRF media in-charge, shared that local witnesses revealed there were four occupants in the vehicle at the time of the accident. Regrettably, three lives were lost in the mishap. The SDRF teams diligently recovered the bodies using a combination of ropes and stretchers, subsequently transferring them to the district police.

As authorities assess the situation, efforts are underway to locate the fourth passenger who remains missing. Given the treacherous nature of the terrain, it is presumed that the missing individual may have fallen deeper into the gorge. The search for this passenger continues with dedicated determination.
This tragedy is part of a larger concerning trend across the state. From June 15 onwards, the region has witnessed a sharp escalation in road accidents. Shockingly, approximately 50 lives have been lost due to these incidents, and more than 150 individuals have suffered injuries.
