Deportation of students raises concerns

Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy of Andhra Pradesh has taken a proactive stance to address the situation where a number of students from the state were recently deported from the United States. The issue has prompted him to engage with the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) in order to find a resolution, according to an official statement released on Saturday.

Reports indicate that several students from Andhra Pradesh were unexpectedly deported by officials of the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) federal law enforcement agency upon their arrival at American airports. Despite holding valid visas for pursuing higher education in the USA, these students faced deportation, causing significant concern.

Chief Minister's move to resolve the issue

The official statement from the Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS), a government body dedicated to supporting overseas Telugu-speaking individuals, confirmed Chief Minister Reddy's intervention. The statement revealed that Reddy is actively examining the situation and plans to approach the Ministry of External Affairs, seeking swift resolution. The Chief Minister is committed to ensuring that the careers of these students are not adversely affected due to the unexpected deportation.

Appeal to students and helpline support

In light of these incidents, the state government issued an advisory to the students, urging them to be well-prepared to respond to inquiries from US officials. They were also advised to carry all necessary financial and documentation proofs, along with a clear understanding of non-immigrant visa regulations and details about their chosen university and course.

Furthermore, the APNRTS extended support to the deported students. The society, which also functions as a specialized organization assisting with overseas education admissions and counseling, has shared helpline contact information for the students. Those affected can reach out to the society for guidance and assistance. The helpline numbers are +91 863 2340678 and +91 85000 27678, and the email addresses are info@apnrts.com and helpline@apnrts.com.

A caution against misleading consultancies

In addition to providing support, the APNRTS also cautioned students to remain vigilant against misleading private education consultancies. The society's advisory emphasizes the importance of seeking accurate and reliable information, and not falling victim to deceptive practices.

The proactive steps taken by Chief Minister Reddy and the assistance offered by APNRTS aim to address the concerns of the affected students and ensure their educational pursuits are not hindered by such unfortunate incidents.
