A heart-wrenching incident unfolded in Uttar Pradesh's Saharanpur district, where a tragic accident involving a tractor-trolley claimed the lives of nine people, including four children. The unfortunate incident occurred near Redhibodki village when the tractor-trolley, carrying around 50 devotees, veered into a drain while en route to a religious event.

The Unfortunate Event

On the evening of August 23, tragedy struck as a tractor-trolley transporting devotees was headed to Randaul village for a religious gathering. The incident took place in the Tajpura area of Saharanpur district. The tractor-trolley, which was carrying around 50 people, tragically fell into a drain, resulting in the loss of nine lives.

Victims and Recovery Efforts

Among the victims were four children – Aditi and Arjun, both aged five and 12, and Sulochana and Manglesh, aged 58 and 50 respectively. The incident led to several individuals being swept away by the strong current of the river. While four bodies were recovered from the drain on Wednesday, five more were found on Thursday. The identities of the five victims recovered on Thursday are yet to be established.

Ongoing Rescue Operation

Efforts to rescue one missing person continue as authorities undertake a rescue operation in the area. An excavation machine has been brought in to assist in the rescue work. Saharanpur District Magistrate Dr Dinesh Chand and SSP Dr Vipin Tada visited the accident site to assess the situation. It was revealed that despite warnings against taking a particular route due to the potential dangers, the driver of the tractor-trolley ignored the caution.

Condolences and Support

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed his condolences to the families of the victims. He directed the Saharanpur administration to provide immediate financial assistance of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of each victim, aiming to support them during this tragic time. This unfortunate incident serves as a somber reminder of the risks associated with disregard for safety warnings, and the ongoing rescue operation highlights the collective efforts to recover those still missing.
