In a noteworthy act of generosity, an anonymous donor has contributed a substantial amount for the establishment of a Green Energy and Sustainability Research (GESR) Hub at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay. This act has been hailed as a rare occurrence in the realm of Indian academia, where donors usually seek recognition for their contributions.
IIT Bombay's Director, Prof Subhasis Chaudhari, expressed his astonishment at the unique nature of this donation. He stated that it's the first time the institution has received such an anonymous gift. While it's common for philanthropists in the United States to remain anonymous, this practice is relatively unheard of in India. Prof Chaudhari emphasized that donors trust that when they support IIT Bombay, their funds will be efficiently and effectively utilized for the intended purpose.

The donated funds will be allocated to the GESR Hub, which will play a pivotal role in conducting research in critical areas such as solar photovoltaics, battery technologies, clean-air science, flood forecasting, and carbon capture. This initiative underscores the institution's commitment to addressing climate challenges through cutting-edge research, interdisciplinary collaborations, and the nurturing of entrepreneurial endeavors.
The GESR Hub will be housed within a modern academic facility located on the IIT Bombay Campus in suburban Powai. In addition to facilitating groundbreaking research, this research center will provide industry-specific educational training and establish strategic partnerships with international universities and corporations.
