Contractual healthcare employees from various medical facilities in Chandigarh, including GMSH-16 and civil hospitals in sectors 22, 45, and Manimajra, expressed their frustration over not receiving their salaries since July. In response to this issue, they organized a silent protest in front of the administrative block of the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Chandigarh.
The protest brought together hundreds of contractual employees, including those from health and wellness centers. These individuals, who had already completed their morning duties, participated in the protest from 2 pm to 3 pm. Their unified presence conveyed their concern about the prolonged delay in receiving their salaries.
During the demonstration, a delegation representing the union of these contractual workers was summoned by Dr. VK Nagpal, the medical superintendent of GMSH-16. Dr. Nagpal assured the members that the hospital administration was actively working to expedite the release of their overdue salaries.
The delegation was led by union president Mandeep Kaur, senior vice-president Rahul Sharma, general secretary Manoj Kumar, and press secretary Simranjeet Singh. Following discussions with higher authorities, including representatives from GMSH-16 and the UT health secretary, the union members decided to exercise patience for the next two days. They expressed their willingness to wait for a resolution to the salary issue.

However, the union members also made it clear that if their salaries were not disbursed within the specified timeframe, they would escalate their protest. This ultimatum reflects the deep concern and frustration among these contractual healthcare workers, who rely on their salaries to support themselves and their families.
The delay in salary disbursement has put these workers in a challenging position, as they continue to fulfill their duties amidst financial uncertainty. Their silent protest serves as a poignant reminder of the vital role they play in the healthcare system, particularly during these challenging times.
As the contractual healthcare workers await a resolution to their salary concerns, the administration and authorities are under increased pressure to ensure that these essential workers receive their due compensation promptly. This situation highlights the importance of addressing payment delays to maintain the morale and well-being of healthcare personnel, who are at the forefront of providing critical services to the community.
