The Indian Olympic Association (IOA) revealed the highly anticipated official ceremonial dress and playing kit for the Indian contingent set to participate in the upcoming 2022 Asian Games. The event, scheduled to be held in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8, was celebrated with a grand send-off ceremony. The ceremony was attended by prominent figures, including Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Youth Affairs and Sports, Anurag Singh Thakur, and IOA President and legendary sprinter PT Usha, among other senior officials.

The Indian contingent at the event was represented by various sportspersons, including Indian hockey goalkeepers PR Sreejesh (men) and Savita Punia (women), shooting sensation Manu Bhaker, and 2018 Asian Games shot put gold medalist Tajinderpal Singh Toor, along with athletes from numerous other disciplines.

Ceremonial dress and playing kit

The ceremonial dress, conceptualized and uniquely designed by the National Institute of Fashion Technology, features a khaki textured saree for women and a khaki kurta for male players. The bandhgala jacket for male athletes and the high-neck blouse for women seamlessly combine Indian motifs and prints with quintessential Indian silhouettes, representing India's rich cultural diversity on the global stage. Notably, the attire incorporates recycled fabrics, promoting sustainability and a connection with nature.

Design inspired by Indian art and diversity

The playing kit, designed by the talented Kashmiri designer Aaquib Wani, who has also designed the Indian cricket team jersey, draws inspiration from India's diverse art forms. It serves as a visual tribute to the remarkable diversity and unity that define India. Each athlete will carry a piece of their home state with them, embodying the essence of their region on the field.
