Heavy rains in Himachal Pradesh have caused severe devastation, with over 50 lives lost within just 24 hours. The state's Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, expressed his condolences and pledged support for the affected families. This tragic situation has led to cloudbursts and landslides, prompting a swift response from authorities.

Cloudburst tragedy in Solan

Seven individuals tragically lost their lives in a cloudburst incident in Solan district. This natural disaster led to the washing away of two houses and a cowshed in the Mamligh village of Kandaghat subdivision. Fortunately, six people were rescued from the disaster site, but the loss of life was deeply distressing.

Landslide at Shiv temple in Shimla:

Nine lives were claimed by a devastating landslide that struck a Shiv Temple in the Summer Hill area of Shimla city. This tragic incident occurred due to heavy rains, leaving the community in mourning. A second landslide occurred in the Fagli area, where five bodies were recovered from the rubble. Thankfully, 17 individuals were successfully rescued from this disaster site. The landslides were a result of the incessant rainfall.

National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has mobilized teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) to engage in relief and rescue operations in the rain-affected regions of Himachal Pradesh. The loss of lives due to the deluge is deeply distressing to the nation.

Chief Minister's appeal

Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu issued an urgent appeal to the people, urging them to stay indoors and avoid approaching drains or rivers. He also emphasized the importance of staying away from landslide-prone areas during this crisis. Additionally, he requested tourists to refrain from visiting the state to ensure their safety and reduce the burden on rescue efforts. In Shimla city, there is a concerning situation with 15 to 20 people feared buried in two landslides. The Deputy Commissioner of Shimla, Aditya Negi, has reported one of the landslide sites to be in Shimla city itself, while the other is in the Fagli area, where multiple houses were buried under mud and slush.
