The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has given its approval for the temporary appointment of Dipak Gupta as the interim managing director and chief executive officer of Kotak Mahindra Bank. Dipak Gupta holds several key roles at the bank, including overseeing IT, cyber security, customer experience, and business intelligence. He previously served as the joint managing director of the bank.
Dipak Gupta's connection with Kotak Mahindra Bank goes back to 1999 when he joined as an executive director of Kotak Mahindra Finance Ltd (KMFL). Even before Kotak obtained its banking license in 2003, he played a pivotal role in developing the bank's retail business.

Dipak Gupta's educational journey started with an engineering degree in electronics from Banaras Hindu University in 1983. He furthered his academic pursuits by earning a post-graduate diploma in management from the prestigious Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Ahmedabad in 1985.

Uday Kotak's departure from his role occurred ahead of the scheduled end of his term, which was set to conclude by the end of 2023. This development marks a significant change in leadership at the bank, with Dipak Gupta temporarily stepping into the role of interim managing director and chief executive officer.
