Tariff cuts boost US agricultural exports to India

The United States has expressed its appreciation for India's decision to reduce tariffs on various American agricultural goods. US Secretary of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack, welcomed India's move, highlighting the potential for new market opportunities for US producers.*

This development follows an announcement by United States Trade Representative Katherine Tai that both countries have resolved their last outstanding dispute at the World Trade Organization (WTO). The agreement includes tariff reductions on specific US agricultural products, such as frozen turkey, frozen duck, fresh blueberries, cranberries, and various processed forms of these fruits.

Biden and Modi meeting drives progress

The breakthrough came as US President Joe Biden met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 8 in New Delhi, just before the G20 Leaders' Summit. A joint statement released by the two nations celebrated the resolution of their seventh and final WTO dispute, with the previous six being resolved during PM Modi's State visit to the US in June.

Strengthening Global Trade Partnerships

Under the Biden-Harris Administration, efforts have been focused on rebuilding trust and enhancing relationships with global trading partners, including India. The goal is to ensure that these partners uphold their commitments, granting US agriculture fair access to crucial export markets.

Congressman Rick Larsen and US Senators Mark Warner, Tim Kaine, and Amy Klobuchar praised the agreement, emphasizing its significance for American farmers and producers. The National Turkey Federation also applauded the efforts, recognizing the importance of expanded market access for US turkey producers.
