Himachal Pradesh's Chief Minister, Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, attended the G20 Summit dinner in New Delhi and utilized the occasion to discuss the severe consequences of torrential rains in his state with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. During their conversation, he also made a request for a special disaster relief package for Himachal Pradesh.

Sukhu's discussion with Prime Minister

Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh, seized the opportunity of the G20 Summit dinner to raise concerns about the devastating aftermath of heavy rainfall in his state during a conversation with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He highlighted the gravity of the situation and the urgent need for assistance.

Special Disaster Relief Package

In addition to addressing the rain-related challenges, Sukhu also appealed to Prime Minister Modi for a special disaster relief package specifically tailored for Himachal Pradesh. This request reflects the recognition of the unique circumstances faced by the state due to the natural calamity. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu emphasized the importance of designating the recent calamity in Himachal Pradesh as a 'national disaster.' This classification carries significance as it can expedite the allocation of resources and support from the central government to aid in disaster relief efforts.

Presence of opposition Chief Ministers

Sukhu was among the Chief Ministers of Opposition-ruled states who were present at the G20 Summit dinner. Other notable Chief Ministers in attendance included Mamata Banerjee from West Bengal and Hemant Soren from Jharkhand. A group photograph featuring UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, Union Minister Piyush Goyal, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar, and Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, among others, was shared by Assam Chief Minister Himanta Sarma.
