Opposing reservation caps

Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has voiced his opposition to limiting reservations for employment and education to 50%. He asserted that states should have the authority to determine the extent of quotas based on the population of deserving sections.

Stalin argued that the power to grant reservations proportionate to the respective states' populations should rest with the state governments. He emphasized that providing reservation is the prerogative of the states and called for devolving this power to enable states to provide appropriate reservations to their people.

Critique of BJP's approach

Taking a dig at RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's recent support for reservation, Stalin questioned the RSS's stance during the V P Singh regime when social justice measures were being implemented. He criticized the BJP for not implementing the 27% reservation policy during its nine years in power, asserting that the party does not prioritize the progress of marginalized sections.

Stalin urged the Central government to fulfill two demands made by late Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in 1973: providing quotas for SCs in central government jobs and allocating specific reservation quotas for SCs and Backward sections in government posts. He highlighted the historical role of the Dravidian movement and the Justice Party in championing social justice in Tamil Nadu and guiding oppressed people in other states to secure their rights.
