US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan has stated that the United States is in contact with India regarding Canada's allegations concerning the killing of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar. He emphasized that there can be no "special exemption" for actions like these, and the US will defend its basic principles. Sullivan's remarks came during a White House press briefing where he reaffirmed the US's deep concern about Canada's allegations and expressed support for the investigation to bring the perpetrators to justice.

Responding to questions about whether President Joe Biden would discuss the issue with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and whether it might strain US-India relations, Sullivan did not disclose private diplomatic conversations but noted that the issue had been discussed at high levels.

Sullivan also addressed questions about why the US appeared to be handling Russia, China, and India differently in terms of their actions and policies. He clarified that while there are differences in how the US deals with each country, the administration's overarching principle is to take action to defend American interests and security when threats arise, regardless of the country involved.
