In the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict, Ukraine carried out a missile attack on the city of Sevastopol in occupied Crimea, triggering air raid alerts and casualties. This came just a day after Ukraine targeted the headquarters of Russia's Black Sea Fleet, leaving a serviceman missing and significant damage.

Debris from intercepted missiles fell near a pier in Sevastopol, prompting the city to be put on air raid alert for about an hour. Ferry traffic in the area was temporarily halted but later resumed. In addition to Sevastopol, loud blasts were reported near Vilne in northern Crimea, with rising clouds of smoke observed.

Casualties and Uncertainty

Ukraine's intelligence chief, Kyrylo Budanov, claimed that at least nine people were killed and 16 were injured in the attack on the Black Sea Fleet. However, these claims could not be independently verified, and there was no confirmation on the type of missiles used. Initially, the Russian Defense Ministry reported one service member killed but later stated that the individual was missing.

Crimea has played a crucial role in supporting Russia's invasion of Ukraine, with Sevastopol serving as the main base for Russia's Black Sea Fleet. Ukraine has been increasingly targeting naval facilities in Crimea to weaken Russian military capabilities, while its counteroffensive in other parts of Ukraine progresses slowly.

Further Escalation

Ukraine reported that Russia launched Iranian-made drones in the southeast, with most of them destroyed. Additionally, Russia carried out numerous strikes in various regions, resulting in civilian casualties and damage to critical infrastructure. The conflict continues to escalate, posing a significant humanitarian and security challenge in the region.
