The Chief District Officer promptly took action, expelling the erring worker and lodging a police report against him. The incident came to light when an employee from Uttar Pradesh's Non-Conventional Energy Development Agency (Neda) caught the worker in the act of filling a sack with official files. The files included bundles of elderly pension application forms that had gone missing for days, causing significant distress.
Efforts to locate the missing files had proven futile, and it was later discovered that government files had been sold to scrap dealers unnoticed. The sanitation worker was taken to a shop where he had previously sold these files, leading to the recovery of some of them.
