In a thrilling contest, Commonwealth Games gold medalist Manika Batra secured her spot in the women's singles quarterfinals at the Asian Games in Hangzhou. Manika faced a tough challenge from Suthasini Sawettabut of Thailand and emerged victorious with a score of 4-2 (11-7, 6-11, 12-10, 11-13, 12-10, 11-6). Her performance in this match ensured her progression to the next stage of the competition.

Manika's upcoming challenge

Manika Batra, who clinched a gold medal at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and a bronze in mixed doubles at the Jakarta Asian Games, will now prepare to face world No. 3, Yidi Wang of China, in the quarterfinals. This quarterfinal match holds particular significance for Manika, as it represents her final opportunity to secure a medal at this edition of the Asian Games. She had previously participated in the mixed and women's team events but fell short of medal contention.

Mixed results for Indian Men's Table Tennis

In the men's round of 16, the Indian duo of Manav Vikash Thakkar and Manush Utpalbhai Shah displayed their skills by defeating their opponents, Izaac Quek Yong and Yew En Koen Pang, with a score of 3-2 (3-11, 11-9, 11-6, 5-11). Their next challenge awaits as they go up against Korea's Woojin Jang and Lim Jong-hoon in the upcoming match.

On the other hand, the Indian pair of A Sharath Kamal and G Sathiyan faced a tough competition from the Chinese pair of Chuqin Wang and Fan Zhendong, ultimately losing with a score of 0-3 (5-11, 4-11, 7-11).

Manika Batra's impressive victory keeps India's hopes alive in the table tennis event at the Asian Games. As the competition progresses, Indian athletes are set to continue showcasing their skills and determination on the international stage.
