Uttarakhand's picturesque hill station, Mussoorie, faced a sudden surge in tourist arrivals during the long weekend, resulting in extensive traffic congestion throughout the town. All hotels in the area reported being fully booked, exacerbating the traffic situation.
Traffic snarls extended for as long as two kilometers, starting from JP Bend, Kincraig, and Gandhi Chowk, and continuing along the Zero Point and Kempty Falls road. Other areas like Motilal Nehru Road, Picture Palace, and Mall Road also experienced intermittent traffic congestion throughout the day.
Tourists were left frustrated as they found themselves trapped in heavy traffic. Prashant Bhardwaj, a tourist from New Delhi, recounted his experience, saying, "We got stuck in heavy traffic from Kincraig, and from there was a serpentine queue of vehicles on both sides of the road, and it took us over an hour to reach Gandhi Chowk."

Traffic conditions in hill towns can often be challenging due to factors such as narrow roads, steep terrain, and a surge in tourist numbers. Mussoorie's recent traffic woes are reminiscent of similar situations in other hilly regions like Nainital in Uttarakhand and Shimla in Himachal Pradesh. These towns experienced a tourism rush due to rising temperatures in the plains.
In Shimla, for instance, a total of 30,000 vehicles entered the town in just two days, leading to overcrowded streets and a scramble for accommodations. Hill towns frequently grapple with traffic jams during peak tourist seasons, holidays, and weekends when visitors flock to enjoy the scenic beauty of these destinations.
