Bhupinder Singh Hooda, the former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, has urged the government to appoint Asian Games medalists to higher positions like Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) under the 'Padak Lao, Pad Pao' policy of the Congress party. Hooda made this demand during a press conference in Rohtak, emphasizing the need to recognize and reward the achievements of Asian Games athletes.
Hooda also proposed an increase in cash rewards for medalists, suggesting that gold medalists should receive ₹5 crore, silver medalists ₹3 crore, and bronze medalists ₹2 crore. He praised the outstanding performance of Indian athletes at the Asian Games and highlighted the significant contributions of Haryana's players.
Hooda drew parallels with the 2010 Commonwealth Games, where athletes from Haryana alone won 22 out of 38 gold medals for India. He credited the sports policy introduced by the Congress government in the state for encouraging and nurturing young talent.

Citing examples such as Jogender Sharma, Yogeshwar Dutt, and Sandeep Singh, Hooda pointed out that the Congress government had initiated a sports quota for jobs, appointing athletes to higher positions like DSPs and inspectors. Additionally, sports facilities were established in every village to promote physical activities and provide opportunities for aspiring athletes.
Expressing concern over the present state of sports facilities and the rise of drug addiction among youth, Hooda stressed the importance of promoting sports to safeguard the younger generation. He promised that if the Congress comes to power, they would implement the 'Padak Lao, Pad Pao' policy and enhance support for athletes, including increased quotas and rewards.
