Chandigarh experienced heavy rainfall on Monday, with the city recording 18.8mm of rain, leading to a significant drop in daytime temperatures by eight notches. This downpour was the most substantial October rainfall since 2021, when 29.7mm of rain occurred on October 25. The month's total rainfall reached 23.4mm, making it the third-wettest October in the last decade.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), there is a possibility of light rain on Tuesday. However, from Wednesday onward, dry weather is expected to prevail. This shift is attributed to a strong western disturbance, which is unusual for October, causing the recent heavy rain.
IMD Chandigarh director Manmohan Singh explained that the powerful western disturbance was responsible for the heavy rain. Typically, such disturbances are not as potent during October. Although a fresh western disturbance is anticipated around October 20, it is expected to be weaker and is unlikely to bring rain to the city.

The maximum temperature on Monday dropped to 24.9°C, which is 6.8 degrees below the normal temperature for this time of year. The minimum temperature changed from 19.2°C on Sunday to 18.6°C on Monday, remaining 0.7 degrees above the average. Humidity levels ranged from 63% to 91%.
Over the next three days, the maximum temperature is projected to fluctuate between 27°C and 28°C, while the minimum temperature will remain within the range of 19°C to 20°C.

In Sector 8-C, an old tree collapsed in a parking lot around 11:30 am, damaging five vehicles belonging to bank employees. Fortunately, there were no reported casualties. Officials determined that approximately 70% of the tree's roots had been damaged by termites, leading to the collapse.
