Coach Thomas Dennerby has unveiled the 22-member squad for the Indian women's team set to participate in the AFC Olympic Qualifiers Round 2. The Blue Tigresses will be competing in Group C matches against Japan (October 26), Vietnam (October 29), and host nation Uzbekistan (November 1). The top team in each group and the best runner-up will advance to the Round 3 qualifiers.
The Indian team, currently ranked 61st in FIFA charts, will face formidable opponents. Japan is ranked 8th, Vietnam is 34th, and Uzbekistan is 50th. Dennerby acknowledges the challenge, stating, "Japan is a very strong side, and Vietnam and Uzbekistan are also ranked higher than us, but we will do whatever we can to qualify."
While Japan's strength makes the top spot a tough target, Dennerby suggests that the team should aim for second place. Realistically, securing the second position in the group could be a significant achievement.
