Parts of Bengaluru are on yellow alert until November 10, heightening the risk of rain impacting the World Cup 2023 match between New Zealand and Sri Lanka at Chinnaswamy Stadium. The city has experienced heavy rainfall, leading to flooding and waterlogging. The Chinnaswamy Stadium, known for its excellent drainage facilities, can be ready for play within half an hour of rainfall. However, relentless and heavy showers could pose challenges.

Crucial consequences for World Cup points table

In case of a washout, both teams, New Zealand and Sri Lanka, will share points. This outcome would leave New Zealand with 9 points, impacting their chances of qualifying for the World Cup semi-finals. The team started strongly with four consecutive wins but has faced setbacks with as many losses. A win against Sri Lanka is crucial for New Zealand to reach 10 points.

Opportunity for Pakistan and other contenders

A rain washout provides an opportunity for Pakistan to advance to the semi-finals. Currently holding 8 points, Pakistan faces England, and a victory would secure their spot. Afghanistan also stands a chance if they beat South Africa, considering net run rate factors.

Meanwhile, the Pakistani team, after two days in Kolkata, had a focused practice session. Shadab Khan, recovering from a concussion, participated in bowling and batting drills. Babar Azam, aiming to overcome batting inconsistencies, spent significant time in the nets, particularly against pace sensation Shaheen Shah Afridi.

Injury concerns for pacer Haris Rauf were alleviated, as he actively participated in the practice session following an MRI for a left rib injury scare.
