Myanmar's unrest fuels drug rtade surge

The record-breaking drug bust in Kanchanaburi underscores the escalating challenges in the region, with militias and traffickers in northern Myanmar contributing to an extreme supply of narcotics. The UN representative, Jeremy Douglas, emphasized the concerning situation, citing the significant production by these groups. The shift in drug routes from northern and northeastern provinces of Thailand to western regions like Kanchanaburi, as mentioned by Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul, reflects increased surveillance and security, with Myanmar's internal conflicts and military actions intensifying risks for smugglers along traditional routes.
