As a cold wave tightens its grip on major parts of North India, several states have taken precautionary measures by declaring holidays for students. The frigid conditions, exacerbated by fresh snowfall in the Himalayan regions, have prompted authorities to implement Winter Vacation in Jammu, with holiday dates announced in Rajasthan and Delhi.
The Rajasthan Board of Secondary Education (RBSE) has officially declared the commencement of winter vacation on December 25, providing students a reprieve from the chilly weather.
In the national capital, the Delhi government has adjusted the duration of winter vacation, reducing it from 15 days to 6 days. This decision comes in light of the previous closure of schools in November due to poor air quality. The remaining portion of the Winter Vacation for the Academic Session 2023-2024 is scheduled from January 1, 2024 (Monday) to January 6, 2024 (Saturday).

All government and private schools in Jammu will observe an extended winter vacation from December 11, 2023, to February 29, 2024. Students up to the 8th standard will have holidays from December 11, 2023, to February 29, 2024, while those in 9th to 12th standards will have vacations from December 18 to February 29.
The recent dip in temperature is notable, with Delhi experiencing its coldest day of the season on Friday, registering just 6.2°C on Thursday. The colder weather is attributed to fresh snowfall and rains in Jammu and Kashmir, with weather experts anticipating heavy snowfall in Himalayan areas, affecting temperatures in states like Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, and Rajasthan.
