British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, during a surprise visit to Kyiv, pledged a new multibillion-dollar aid package for Ukraine, emphasizing a decade-long commitment to support. The £2.5 billion ($3.2 billion) aid includes crucial arms and ammunition such as artillery shells and drones, addressing Ukraine's immediate needs in the ongoing conflict with Russia.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky hailed the aid as "unprecedented" and highlighted the signing of a 10-year security cooperation agreement. The aid package aims to bolster Ukraine's defense capabilities as it faces increased threats from Russia.

UK's call for International support:

Sunak urged other Western countries to intensify their support for Ukraine, emphasizing the critical nature of the situation. He warned that wavering support could embolden not only Putin but also his allies worldwide, including North Korea and Iran.

The aid includes air defense equipment, anti-tank weapons, long-range missiles, ammunition, and artillery shells. The UK will also contribute to training thousands of Ukrainian servicemen and allocate £200 million for the development of drones, marking the largest drone package provided by any nation to Ukraine.

Long-term alliance and NATO membership:

Sunak emphasized that the security package would be the core of the UK's alliance with Ukraine for "100 years or more." He also expressed the UK's belief in Ukraine's NATO membership, stating that NATO would be stronger with Ukraine as a member.

President Zelensky highlighted the significance of security guarantees, suggesting that earlier assurances could have prevented Russian aggression. He expressed gratitude for the 10-year pledge of support, emphasizing its potential to deter aggression.

The British Prime Minister's visit coincided with intensified Russian air strikes, leading to casualties in the southern city of Kherson. Sunak met with emergency service workers and praised Ukrainian courage in responding to the aftermath of Russian attacks.

The latest commitment brings the UK's total support for Ukraine's war efforts to nearly £12 billion. The aid includes various military equipment previously supplied to Ukraine, showcasing the UK's ongoing commitment to supporting its ally in the face of regional threats.
