Chandigarh University's founder-chancellor, Satnam Singh Sandhu, aged 54, has been nominated to the Rajya Sabha, receiving commendation from Vice-President and Rajya Sabha chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar, as well as Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Sandhu's nomination, announced by the home ministry, highlights his significant contributions to education and community service.

Sandhu, credited with establishing Chandigarh Group of Colleges in 2001 and Chandigarh University in 2012, is not only an academician but also an agriculturist. Beyond academia, Sandhu is actively involved in community initiatives, promoting health, wellness, and communal harmony through his two NGOs, the Indian Minorities Foundation and the New India Development Foundation.

Chandigarh University, under Sandhu's leadership, gained national attention for creating the largest human chain depicting the national flag, as mentioned in the Prime Minister's Mann ki Baat address last year. Sandhu, hailing from a farming background in Ferozepur district, has not only served as a bridge between the Sikh diaspora and the Prime Minister but also played a key role in the Sadbhavna Programme.
