Starting from February 9, parents in Punjab can now enroll their children in government schools for the academic session 2024-25 from the comfort of their homes. The Punjab education department has introduced an online admission link on their portal, https://www.ssapunjab.org/.
Parents no longer need to visit schools for their children's admission. They can simply apply for admission or register for the next class through the online admission link. Punjab's Education Minister, Harjot Bains, emphasized that this move aims to streamline the admission process.
To assist parents with any queries regarding the admission process, the education department will introduce a toll-free number.
The education department has also set enrollment targets for each school for the upcoming academic session. Pre-primary schools are expected to increase enrollment by 10%, while primary and secondary schools should see a 5% rise.

To ensure effective implementation, the education department has formed admission committees at every level. Additionally, teachers and school heads who contribute significantly to enhancing enrollments will be rewarded with incentives.
In a bid to compete with private schools, the admission process for government schools has been advanced by two months. Previously, admissions would begin after the board exams, usually in March, while private schools completed their processes by February's end. This delay often resulted in lower enrollment for government schools. By starting the admission process earlier, the education department hopes to attract more students to government schools.
With these initiatives, Punjab's education department aims to make the admission process more accessible and convenient for parents while fostering an environment conducive to increased enrollment in government schools.
