Chandigarh Smart City Limited (CSCL) organized a two-day study tour to showcase the city's cycling infrastructure, welcoming a delegation from Bhubaneshwar municipal corporation (BMC) and Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ). The initiative aimed to facilitate knowledge exchange and promote sustainable urban mobility practices.
Over the past five years, Chandigarh has strategically implemented more than 227 km of cycle tracks along V-8 roads, with segregated non-motorised transport (NMT) lanes on sector-dividing roads (V3). This eco-friendly project has effectively reduced conflicts between pedestrians and vehicles, leading to a decrease in fatalities. The project, executed through a public-private partnership (PPP), underscores the importance of collaboration in urban development.

During the study tour, the BMC and GIZ teams appreciated CSCL's phased approach to launching cycling infrastructure and the utilization of PPP mode for implementation. GIZ, renowned for providing technical assistance, actively supports government agencies in their urban development endeavors. The visit aimed to provide BMC with insights into Chandigarh's successful urban mobility initiatives under the Smart Cities Mission.
Site visits were organized to key locations in the city, including Urban Park, Sector-17 Underpass, public bike-sharing sites, and the Integrated Command & Control Centre (ICCC). These visits offered participants deeper understanding and insights into the various projects implemented in Chandigarh.
