Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu recently unveiled the updated version of the Himachal Pradesh Land Code, which consolidates 64 acts, 59 rules, and approximately 340 notifications and guidelines concerning revenue and other departments. This revised code aims to streamline land-related matters by providing comprehensive information to officials and the public.
The Himachal Pradesh Land Code, first introduced in 1922, had remained unchanged until now. Over time, various laws and guidelines related to land issues underwent modifications and updates. Recognizing the need for a contemporary approach, Chief Minister Sukhu initiated the revision process to ensure that the code reflects current legislation accurately.
One significant aspect of the updated code is its accessibility. The government plans to distribute the land code book to key administrative offices, including those of the deputy commissioner, sub-divisional magistrate, and tehsil offices. By providing easy access to this resource, officials can stay informed about relevant acts, rules, notifications, and guidelines, facilitating smoother resolution of revenue-related matters.

Chief Minister Sukhu emphasized that the availability of the updated land code would empower officials to address revenue issues efficiently. This accessibility is expected to alleviate the burden on citizens seeking assistance with land-related concerns. The government's objective is to expedite the resolution of such matters, thereby providing timely relief to the people.
In addition to releasing the updated land code, the government has been proactive in enhancing dispute resolution mechanisms. Revenue lok adalats, held during the final two days of each month, aim to swiftly address land-related cases. Since October 2023, these adalats have successfully resolved a remarkable 89,091 mutation cases and 6,029 pending partition cases on the spot. This proactive approach underscores the government's commitment to providing efficient and effective governance.
In essence, the release of the updated Himachal Pradesh Land Code represents a significant step towards modernizing land administration processes and ensuring transparency and accessibility in revenue matters.
