Before the Panjab University Campus Students Council elections, the Punjab government announced a grant of ₹48.91 crore for constructing more hostels on campus through a gazette notification issued on August 25.
During the budget session, the Punjab government declared an initial allocation of ₹40 crore for the construction of hostels at Panjab University in the 2024-25 financial year. However, PU officials revealed that they had not yet received any funds from this allocation.

Despite the announcement of the grant, PU officials stated that they had not yet received any funds. Meetings were ongoing between the PU Dean Students Welfare (DSW) office, the PU construction office, and Punjab government officials to finalize plans for the hostels and address any objections. It was anticipated that once the hostel plans were finalized and all objections were resolved, the funds would be released.

Previously, the Punjab chief minister had visited PU in July 2023, during which the initial announcement regarding the construction of new hostels was made. Despite the announcement of the grant, the Chhatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS), the student wing of the Aam Aadmi Party, utilized it for their campaign during the PUCSC elections but did not succeed.
