The Election Commission of India (ECI) has released the schedule for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, along with the dates for assembly elections in four states. The voting for the 543 Lok Sabha seats will span from April 19 to June 4, divided into seven phases. Additionally, assembly elections in various states will coincide with the Lok Sabha polls.

Key election dates and phases:

The Lok Sabha elections will be conducted in seven phases, commencing on April 19 and concluding on June 1. Each phase covers multiple states and Union Territories, with polling conducted in different constituencies. Notably, the model code of conduct is now in effect, ensuring fair play during the electoral process.

The voting dates for each state vary, with some states like Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Odisha witnessing polling in multiple phases due to their large number of constituencies. In contrast, others like Sikkim and Uttarakhand will have elections on a single day.

Counting of votes and measures against violence:

Counting of votes for both the Lok Sabha and state assembly elections is scheduled for June 4. The Election Commission has emphasized maintaining a level playing field during the electoral process, with strict measures in place to address any instances of violence. District magistrates and city police chiefs are tasked with ensuring fair conduct, with assurances of swift action against any disruptions.
