Candidates are gearing up for the Lok Sabha elections in Northeast India, with the first phase set to take place on April 19. Among the key battlegrounds are five seats in Assam: Jorhat, Dibrugarh, Kaziranga, Sonitpur, and Lakhimpur.
Union ministers Sarbananda Sonowal and Kiren Rijiju, along with other prominent figures like Tripura's Biplab Kumar Deb and former Arunachal Pradesh CM Nabam Tuki, are contesting in the first phase. Assam's Dibrugarh seat sees a significant contest between Sonowal and Assam Jatiya Parishad president Lurinjyoti Gogoi.

In Arunachal Pradesh, Union minister Kiren Rijiju faces off against former CM Nabam Tuki. Meanwhile, in Manipur's Inner Manipur seat, BJP's T Basantakumar Singh contests against Congress's A Bimol Akoijam. Nagaland, Tripura, and Meghalaya also witness fierce electoral battles for their respective seats.
