In yet another showdown between Jasprit Bumrah and Virat Kohli in the IPL, the Mumbai Indians' pacer once again emerged victorious, claiming his fifth dismissal of the Royal Challengers Bangalore captain. This encounter took place at the renowned Wankhede Stadium during the 25th match of the 2024 Indian Premier League season.

Early blow for RCB

Royal Challengers Bangalore, led by Faf du Plessis, faced an early setback as they took on Hardik Pandya's Mumbai Indians. Opting to bat after losing the toss, RCB saw Kohli walking in to face Bumrah's fierce deliveries in the powerplay.

In a dramatic turn of events, Bumrah struck early, sending Kohli back to the pavilion in just the second over of the match. Kohli, known for his batting prowess, could only manage 3 runs off 9 balls before edging a delivery from Bumrah to wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan. This dismissal marked the fifth time Bumrah has claimed Kohli's wicket in IPL history.

Before this encounter, Kohli boasted the best strike rate against Bumrah among batters who had faced 40 or more deliveries from the Mumbai Indians' speedster. However, Bumrah's consistent performance has now reduced Kohli's strike rate to 147.36 in IPL matches.

Expectations despite setback

Despite the setback against Mumbai Indians, Kohli remains a formidable force in the IPL, expected to maintain his position at the top of the Orange Cap standings. With an impressive tally of 319 runs in six matches during the IPL 2024 season, including a century and two half-centuries, Kohli continues to be a key player for Royal Challengers Bangalore.
