In the recent match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in IPL 2024, CSK faced a tough loss despite Ruturaj Gaikwad's century and a quick innings from Shivam Dube. Marcus Stoinis' impressive knock led LSG to victory.
CSK's decision to send Ravindra Jadeja to bat ahead of the in-form Shivam Dube raised eyebrows. Gaikwad clarified that Jadeja's promotion was part of their planned strategy for the tournament. He explained that Jadeja came in at number 4 due to early dismissals and the team's clear plan to send Dube after the powerplay if another wicket fell.
Despite Gaikwad's exceptional performance and his belief that their total was competitive, CSK ultimately couldn't defend their score against LSG's strong batting lineup, mainly due to the dew factor. Gaikwad admitted the target was only par, considering the dew conditions, and credits LSG for batting well.
With this loss, CSK dropped out of the top four in the IPL standings, currently standing fifth with 8 points. Their upcoming challenge against the in-form Sunrisers Hyderabad, known for their high-scoring abilities, poses another tough test for CSK.
