The Supreme Court has asked the Enforcement Directorate (ED) to prepare possible interim bail conditions for Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi, in case he is granted bail due to the upcoming elections. The court made it clear that it will consider the matter on Tuesday, May 7, and both sides should be prepared. However, it cautioned against assuming that bail will be granted, emphasizing the need for openness from both parties.

Supreme Court's instructions to the ED

The Supreme Court directed the ED to be ready with proposed conditions for Kejriwal's interim bail if it is granted. This includes considering whether Kejriwal, in his capacity as the chief minister, should be allowed to sign any official files during this period.

The court stressed the importance of being open-minded and not making assumptions about the outcome. Justice Khanna emphasized that the decision to grant bail is still under consideration and urged both sides to refrain from premature conclusions.

Background on Kejriwal's Case

Arvind Kejriwal was arrested by the ED on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to Delhi's former excise policy. Despite multiple bail pleas, all have been rejected thus far. The BJP has demanded his resignation from the chief minister's post, but Kejriwal has continued in his role. His wife, Sunita Kejriwal, has been active in the Aam Aadmi Party's election campaigning.

On Friday, the Delhi High Court dismissed a petition challenging Kejriwal's arrest in the money laundering case, stating that it was not maintainable. The court emphasized that Kejriwal has the resources to approach the court for appropriate legal proceedings. The petition failed to name Kejriwal directly but made references to his political position, which the court found apparent.
