Mumbai Indians are having a tough time in IPL 2024. Despite being five-time champions, they're at the bottom of the points table with just three wins out of eleven matches. Hardik Pandya, who returned as captain, hasn't been able to boost the team's performance. His own form with bat and ball has been disappointing, adding to the team's woes.

Rohit Sharma, the former skipper, hasn't been consistent either, especially in recent matches. He scored only one fifty-plus score in 11 matches, a century in a losing game against Chennai Super Kings. However, Suryakumar Yadav has shown some promise with three half-centuries in eight matches, providing a glimmer of hope.

Mumbai's struggles and playoff hopes

Mumbai Indians have a very slim chance of making it to the playoffs. They have three matches left and must win all to have any hope. Even then, they rely heavily on other team's results. Current table-toppers Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals finishing top two would be helpful. The outcome of Sunrisers Hyderabad vs. Lucknow Super Giants match is crucial, as the loser must lose all remaining matches to finish with 12 points.

For Mumbai Indians to qualify, Chennai Super Kings must lose all three remaining matches, and the bottom four teams shouldn't exceed 12 points. Even after meeting these conditions, they must rely on Net Run Rate, a tiebreaker based on runs scored and conceded, which is tricky with multiple teams on 12 points.

Jasprit Bumrah stands out amidst Mumbai's struggles. He leads the wicket-takers' list with 17 wickets in 11 matches, showcasing remarkable economy despite high-scoring games. If Mumbai makes the playoffs, Bumrah's chances of winning the Purple Cap for most wickets in the tournament increase. Otherwise, he'll have to wait another season for the coveted cap.

Mumbai Indians face an uphill battle to salvage their IPL 2024 campaign. With inconsistent performances and slim playoff chances, they're under immense pressure to turn the tide in their favor.
